Book Drive

Miles Umscheid in our Lower Elementary class spent time this summer collecting books. He initially wrote a letter asking neighbors, friends, and family members for help. Those that responded dropped off books to Miles at his house or made a collection plan with his mother, Matty Umscheid. Some out of town friends and family sent donations and Miles went to a bookstore to select some of his favorite books that he felt other children would enjoy. Miles has collected over 1,400 books varying in age range from board books to novels. He has enjoyed reading since a young age and wanted to share that joy with other children. Miles will donate the books to the Safe Haven Women’s Shelter and Cooks Children’s Medical Center. Last summer, Miles organized a canned food drive for the Food Bank of North Texas.

Lego Mastermind and Avionics Photos

The Upper Elementary students created vehicles then directed them through an obstacle course. Some vehicles could play tunes or say words that were programmed on the computer. Thank you to our guest teacher and alumni graduate, Renee Williams, for instructing the class. Dale LeMaster taught the middle school students a week-long class on avionics. Students designed planes and tested them to determine if their ability to fly.

These two Upper Elementary students are playing a traditional hoop and stick game. An upper elementary student demonstrates making cheese. The Upper Elementary students made Johnny cakes, cheese and butter last week as part of their study of the pioneers. Celebrating a summer birthday is always fun!

Goodbye and Hello!

MSFW salutes two primary teachers that are departing for other adventures after this school year. Kathy Schimmel is embarking on a sailboat cruise in the Caribbean Sea next year with her beloved, Marion. They plan to explore life to its fullest! We hope to welcome her back in the near future and hear all about this trip of a lifetime! Sarla Shanthakumar has been a lovely addition to our faculty this year. She is moving to Plano to share the responsibilities of aging parents with her family members. Our heartfelt gratitude to Sarla for her year with us at MSFW. She has been such a beautiful example of inner peace for all of us. We welcome back Katie Blair to our North Primary class. Katie previously taught at MSFW and is a well-respected Montessori teacher. She will assume responsibilities for Kathy Schimmel. Sharon Hoffman will be teaching in the 2South classroom with her mentor teachers, Julie Sphar and Gail Corley. Sharon has taught for many years at St. Andrew Catholic School. The Montessori method has intrigued her since sending her [...]

Only with family support can we so fully serve our students.  We thank you for your time, energy and generosity.  Every kindness is noticed and appreciated. Little Free Library

Our Little Free Library has been a wonderful addition to the school this year thanks to the Reynolds Family. Please remember it this summer!  We only have a few books currently. If you are doing cleaning and organizing, consider placing outgrown books in our library. Many of our families frequent the library and perhaps others in the neighborhood. The idea is to take books and give back. Help us keep the Little Free Library stocked with great reads this summer!
