Miles Umscheid in our Lower Elementary class spent time this summer collecting books. He initially wrote a letter asking neighbors, friends, and family members for help. Those that responded dropped off books to Miles at his house or made a collection plan with his mother, Matty Umscheid. Some out of town friends and family sent donations and Miles went to a bookstore to select some of his favorite books that he felt other children would enjoy. Miles has collected over 1,400 books varying in age range from board books to novels. He has enjoyed reading since a young age and wanted to share that joy with other children. Miles will donate the books to the Safe Haven Women’s Shelter and Cooks Children’s Medical Center.
Last summer, Miles organized a canned food drive for the Food Bank of North Texas.
