Teacher Appreciation Week

Dear MSFW Parents, Montessori Parents’ Club Volunteers, Teacher Appreciation Chair Julie Goodman and MPC President Allison Bertorelli, What an incredible week of teacher appreciation filled with happy surprises and indulgences!  Our week started off with a delicious breakfast on Monday, flowers on Tuesday that were beautiful to our eyes and smelled divine, chair massages on Wednesday with willing substitutes to cover in the classrooms, heartfelt words of appreciation on Thursday and a luncheon on Friday.  You are all the most thoughtful parent group any teacher or school could hope to have supporting our work with the children. All your plans were emotionally supportive and the perfect end-of-the-year gift collectively given to us.  Thank you so much for your kindness, consideration and honoring our work with your children. Appreciatively, Crystal Apodaca, Cecilia Aufiero, Ashley Buchanan, Katie Brewton, Amy Brimberry, Helle Calhoun, Gail Corley, Ellen Dast, Judy Duke, Catherine Fredian, Tracy Hanna, BranDe Hayes, Lisa Hendricksen, Morgan Jansing, Cristy Lanford, Rachel Nordgren, Emily Pickell, Jaye Poland, Gaby Rea, Michelle Romero, Becca Sawyer, Kathy Schimmel, Sarla Shanthakumar, Sarah Skinner, Julie Sphar, Terri Szabo, [...]

Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Program

Play it Safe!® is a child abuse awareness and prevention program that incorporates age-appropriate scripts and movies to teach children how to reduce their risk of sexual and physical abuse, and sexual assault. It teaches them to recognize potentially abusive behavior, provides the tools to respond to threatening situations, and encourages them to report abuse to a trusted adult. This program will be presented by the Women’s Center of Tarrant County to our Kindergarten, elementary and middle school students in four separate programs that are age appropriate on Wednesday, April 18th.  If you would like more information, we will hold a parent meeting on Monday, April 16th starting at 5:00 pm in the Middle School.

Technology Rules at Home

Recently Good Morning America ran a powerful story about the intense pull of screens and why having and enforcing, limits are so important ... and hard.  If there is any way you can make the time to watch the 3-minute video with your kids, teens or students—you will be so glad you did. The video shows what happens when a couple allows their with four children ages 6 to 11 to have as much screen time as they want for 48 hours. The kids often used more than one screen at the same time, and the producers counted all screens used when calculating times—so 3 hours with two screens going would be counted as 6 hours.  The total time on screens for each of the kids came to 16, 29, 35 and 46 hours over the course of the two days. On Sunday night when the experiment finished, and the parents took their devices away, the kids had major meltdowns. Knowing which rules, limits, and guidelines to have can be confusing for parents, and then comes the work of implementing them [...]

Celebrating Montessori Week

The Lower Elementary classes traveled back in time and wrote letters to Maria Montessori after learning about her life. Here are a selected few: Dear Maria Montessori, I think you are a great and brave woman. People say that women are weak, but they could never be so wrong. I really like how I don’t have to stay in my grade level, but I can move to upper elementary works like Elena.  My favorite work is Test Tubes  (I’m with Corrigan). Thank you for our wonderful school! Yours truly, Anna Dear Maria Montessori, Thank you for starting the Montessori School. My favorite work is Checkerboard because it is hard. It is fun and colorful. Thank you for starting Montessori School. Love, Turner Dear Maria Montessori, I am thankful for this school because of our classrooms. My favorite work is large bead frame. I like large bead frame because I can multiply with big numbers. Thank you for Montessori schools. Love, Miles Dear Dr. Maria Montessori, I like Small Bead Frame because I can really learn from it. You inspire me [...]
